Admission Criteria

Transfer students seeking admission, who have accumulated 24 semester credit hours or more from regionally accredited colleges or universities, must meet the following entrance requirements:

  • Submit to the Office of Admissions official transcripts from all colleges and universities previously attended. All documents submitted become the property of the University and will not be returned to the student.
  • All official sealed transcripts may be mailed to the address below:

  • Students may request that the original institution send the transcripts electronically to admissions@utpb.edu. Transcripts sent electronically will only be reviewed if they are received directly from the original school.
  • Must have a 2.0 cumulative grade point average or better on a 4.0 grading system in previous college work
  • Must not be on academic or disciplinary suspension from any previously attended college or university (be eligible to re-enroll in the colleges or universities previously attended)

Conditional Admission Criteria

In some cases, students that do not meet the minimum grade point requirement may be admitted conditionally. Conditionally admitted students will complete a student success plan as one of the conditions for their admissions. To be removed from conditional status, a student must:

  • Complete twelve or more general education credit requirements from UTPB with grades of "C" or better in each course
  • Complete other enrollment requirements consistent with his or her deficiencies at the time of application

Failure to meet these requirements may result in an academic probation or dismissal.

A transfer applicant from a non-accredited institution may be considered for conditional admission by the Admissions Review Committee. A transfer student admitted conditionally must achieve a grade point average of 2.0 or above for the first 30 hours of coursework undertaken at UTPB and is subject to academic dismissal at any time the grade point average falls below 2.0.

Freshman transfer students seeking admission, who have accumulated 1-23 semester credit hours from regionally accredited colleges, must meet the following entrance requirements:

    • High school transcript showing grade average, class rank (or approximate) and date of graduation
    • Transcripts from ALL colleges and universities previously attended

MATH 6301: Statistics

Duration: 16 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Statistical concepts emphasizing simple and multiple regression, hypothesis testing and analysis of variance. Prerequisite: one year of college level mathematics.

ACCT 2301: Principles of Financial Accounting

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Introduction to concepts and principles of accounting, to include: recognition, analysis, measurement and recording of monetary information in business transactions. Emphasis of the course will be on understanding financial reporting for external users. Prerequisites: Sophomore standing and MATH 1324 or equivalent.

ACCT 2302: Principles of Managerial Accounting

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Introduction to the use of financial and non-financial accounting information for management, decision making, and control. Prerequisites: ACCT 2301 and MATH 1324 or equivalent.

COSC 1335: Computers & Problem Solving

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Introduction to basic issues related to computer aided problem solving. Computational problems will be studied using software packages, including spreadsheets and database systems. Use of the Internet and the World Wide Web, as problem solving resources is introduced. Basics of computer systems will be introduced.

ECON 2301: Principles of Macroeconomics

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

A description of major economic problems facing modern societies is presented together with how the capitalistic market system addresses these issues. The emphasis is on macroeconomics theory and practice. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing.

ECON 2302: Principles of Microeconomics

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Individual consumer and producer choices are analyzed. Emphasis is placed on supply and demand relationships, utility concepts, and cost and revenue curves as they relate to price theory and various forms of competition. Completion of ECON 2301 is recommended, but not required. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing.

MNGT 2342: Principles of Statistics (Can substitute PSYC 3301)

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

The course is an introduction to the principles of statistics and their application to problems in business and economics. Topics include the basics of probability theory, descriptive statistics, sampling methods, statistical estimation, hypothesis testing, and time series analysis. Prerequisite: must have fulfilled general education mathematics requirement.

All candidates for BBA degrees must complete a basic business administration core of 27 credit hours. These include an approved upper-level ECON elective course plus the following courses. All Upper level undergraduate business courses are subject to an additional $15 per course.

ACCT 3333: Information System Fundamentals

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Introduction to the organizational and managerial foundations of information systems. The role of information systems in enhancing business processes and management decision making is emphasized. Students experience use of business application software in problem solving. Prerequisites: COSC 1335 (BCIS 1305 or 1405). Cross listed with MNGT 3333.

FINA 3320: Principles of Finance

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Survey of foundational concepts in finance; in particular, discounted cash flow analysis and its application to valuation of bonds, stocks, and corporate capital assets. Introduction to the following topics: bond and stock markets; pricing mechanisms in those markets; relationship between risk and return; capital budgeting methods based on discounted cash flow valuation.

MNGT 3310: Management Concepts and Organizational Theory

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Fundamental concepts of management including principles of administration, modern organization theory, goal-setting, leadership and decision-making. This is a study of the impact of societal influences and ethical consideration on business decision-making. Special attention is given to business stakeholder relationships and the role of the organization in the community.

MNGT 3311: Business Communications

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This is an introduction to the basic interpersonal communication process through appropriate communications technology with applications for business organizations. It is a systems approach to planning, researching, organizing, composing, editing, and revising reports and other business-related communications. Oral presentations are required. Business communication ethics are explored.

MNGT 3324: Business and the Law

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This survey course covers the source of law and courts and introduces tort law along with the historical, economic, political, and ethical bases of contracts. The course includes ethical considerations in business and the impact of regulatory and administrative law on business.

MNGT 3340: Production Operations Management

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This course examines the planning, design, execution, and coordination of all activities that create goods or provide services. It addresses how upper level management can improve decision-making in both the manufacturing and service sectors. The course introduces productivity, competitiveness, and strategy; decision-making; quality management; product and service design; process selection and capacity planning; linear programming; facility layout; location planning and analysis; the transportation model; project management; design of work systems; and learning curves.

MNGT 4375: Strategic Management (Capstone)

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This is the capstone course of the business administration degree. Based on environmental analysis, the formulation and implementation of strategic decisions within the organization are addressed. Emphasis is placed on integration of decisions at the functional areas. A supplemental fee is required for this course.

MRKT 3300: Principles of Marketing

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

Survey of marketing fundamentals with focus upon product, price, promotion and distribution within the context of business decision making. Prerequisites: ECON 2301 and ECON 2302

Students must complete the following courses (9 hours), along with 9 hours of approved MNGT electives and 9 hours of approved BUSI electives. All Upper level undergraduate business courses are subject to an additional $15 per course.

MNGT 3312: Human Resource Management

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This is a study of principles and practices in human resource management systems including such topics as recruiting, selection, training and development compensation, health and safety, employee and labor relations, human resource research information systems, and workforce planning.

MNGT 3330: Organizational Behavior

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This is a study of human behavior in organizations, motivation, interpersonal communication and behavior, group behavior, leadership, power, organizational culture, change, and development; job satisfaction; social structure and processes; informal organization; ethical concepts; international organizational behavior issues; organizational theory.

MNGT 3370: Business and Ethics

Duration: 8 weeks   |   Credit Hours: 3

This is a study of the impact of societal influences and ethical consideration on business decision-making. Special attention is given to business stakeholder relationships and the role of the organization in the community.
